I'm Back! And Brunette

HEY LOVELIES! I am now done with exams and on uni holidays, yay :) More time to blog and stress-free until the final week of July. I finished my final exam yesterday afternoon and I was going to blog last night but I felt really exhausted, so after a much-needed sleep-in I am now feeling refreshed and energised hehe. So how is everyone? I hope you're all well - please update me on any news about yourselves, good or bad! And by the way, thank you everyone who wished me good luck for my examinations ♥

I'm going to be doing a short review on a hair dye that I used last month. It's been exactly one month since I dyed my hair so I am able to talk about the effects that the dye has had on my hair ever since. The dye that I used was called L'Oreal Superior Preference UL 4 (Ultra-Lightening Golden Brown) and I bought two bottles of this for my long hair.

I don't normally use L'Oreal hair dyes, I've used two different ones in the past and they didn't work that well for me. Normally I would use Clairol Nice 'n' Easy since that has worked really well for me and has never faded, which means that it is 100% permanent (even though it says up to 36 weeks or something). But this time I decided to try something new which was suggested by Cindy aka Bad Barbie :] I was actually looking for the shade UL 61 Ultra Light Ash Brown but I couldn't find that at any of the shops that I went to.

You may have read in the pictures above that the dye is specially for dark hair, showing a 'before' shade. It's actually really rare to come across hair dyes that are 'ultra lightening' for dark hair so I was impressed that L'Oreal had come up with this. I've seen so many dyes that have said on the box 'this shade is not suitable for dark hair' which has made my heart sink a little :( Reading that made me feel like having dark hair is a disadvantage

For anyone who has dark hair and would like to lighten their hair, there is a solution for dying your hair without having to use bleach...

This dye pretty much ticks all of the boxes for me. I wanted a dye that wouldn't give me red/orange tones... and to my surprise, the information on the back of the box tells me that the golden tones minimise any yellow or orange effect. Yellow and orange being minimised sounds good enough to me - *tick*

I wanted a dye that would be suitable for my dark hair so that I know that it would 'work'. In the past I have used dyes that have not shown up on my hair at all! They were such a waste of money, and I won't name which brand/s I used that failed on me. I can hardly remember which brand/s they were but even so, they're not worth mentioning because bad publicity is still good publicity.

At the back of the box it says:

'For the best result, apply this shade on light brown to black hair'

Tick again. It even shows that the shade is not recommended for light blonde to blonde hair, and I used to think that all dyes would work well with blonde hair.

Price
I think one box was around AU$13.99, and that was a sale price at Priceline. Normally for one box it's around AU$18. I bought two boxes for the sale price.

Hair before using the dye
Most of my hair was black and I had some brown highlights. Because of my subtle regrowth and uneven highlighting (I did them myself), I wanted my hair to go back to just one shade. I wanted caramel/chocolate brown - nothing lighter, nothing darker. My hair strands are quite thin which makes hair dying easier for me as they absorb colour really well. On my head though, I have lots of hair consisting of minimal layers which makes my hair thick overall. My hair is naturally straight and the length of my hair is just past my chest (to the top of my stomach). I'd say that my hair is generally smooth and quite soft.

My hair colour before I got it dyed

My hair dying procedure
I won't go through each instruction step by step; instead I'll give a brief overview of what I did. I mixed the colourant gel and developer cream together in a bowl so that I could mix them together thoroughly. The instructions say to pour the colourant gel into the developer cream applicator bottle and to shake but I prefer mixing like whisking x) I was going to use two colourant bottles but instead I used one and a half... same with the developer cream. My reason for this = I wanted to keep some dye to do touch-ups for regrowth. Yeah I know I could easily go out and buy another bottle of dye but I thought I'd save money this way!

I got my mum to dye my hair because it would have been hard for me to even distribute the dye at the back of my head. And my arms would have gotten really tired from having my arms up for so long. I was going to do it myself but my mum insisted that she would do it for me so yeah, hehe.

She used a regular painting brush to apply the dye and she started from the bottom layer of my hair at the back and then made her way to the very top of my hair. After my whole hair was covered with dye, she put a plastic bag over my head just to keep all of my hair intact. I left the dye in my hair for around 40 minutes and rinsed it out with warm water and used the conditioner that came with the dye.

Afterwards I blow-dried my hair and I could see in the bathroom mirror that my hair was much lighter than my previous dark hair! I was actually amazed at how well it worked and also how light my hair was :O I had never had my hair this light before and it was much lighter than I had expected.

Both in indoor/natural lighting

My mum did a good job with covering my roots evenly, I'm happy with the top part of my hair.

Flash lighting makes it look slightly darker
(I'm not sleeping by the way, just laying down lol)

I swear, different lighting makes my dyed hair look different! You will be surprised how LIGHT my hair looks in yellow/fluorescent lighting.......... this was the night of when I dyed my hair...

Such a light brown, like a really really dark blonde?
My hair isn't this light in natural lighting though, I am glad!

So yes, in extreme lighting like when the sun is out, I think my hair looks close to being light brown, omg! I dyed my hair on the weekend, and when I had uni after the weekend... I felt rather self-conscious about my hair looking so much lighter. Of course, people could tell straight away that I had dyed my hair (even though they still asked me haha).

Here's my own hair swatch of the colour that can be used at the back of a box hehe:

Messy strands but oh well!
I reckon it looks heaps like the swatch on the box :D

1 month later
Firstly I want to say that this hair dye did wonders for my hair. There weren't any damaging effects at all, in fact the complete opposite occurred. My hair seemed healthier after using the dye, like shinier and 'brought to life'. That could have been the result of the super awesome conditioner but even so, this dye didn't damage my hair or strip away my hair's moisture. Luckily no hair dyes have damaged my hair before *phew* and I hope it stays that way.

I haven't been using the conditioner that came with the dye because my current shampoo is a 2-in-1 (shampoo and conditioner). I haven't used any hair products on my hair like gels/waxes/creams/sprays so I can't comment on whether there are any hair products that may have an affect on my dyed hair. I always towel-dry my hair so I also can't comment on the effect of heat etc.

So what can I comment on? I can comment on the scent of the dye and its 'anti-fade' system that this dye claims to have. I was surprised that the dye didn't wreak of strong chemicals - instead it had a more fruity scent that was pleasant for my nose. I could still smell the ammonia however, it didn't seem like my lungs were being filled with poisonous substances every time I breathed in - it was pretty amazing. I think they should have mentioned this on the box because this would probably be good news for those who strongly detest heavy odours in dyes. I for one, see this as a positive.

The dye claims to have a 'patented anti-fade system of up to 6 weeks of colour shine'. I lied, I can't exactly comment on this in detail because it hasn't been 6 weeks yet! I'll just assume that in two weeks time, the dye will still be in my hair.... unless it happens to disappear off the face of the earth after the 6 weeks are up, lol (highly unlikely). It's been 4 weeks and my hair colour hasn't faded, my hair still has its shine and it hasn't become dull. I could update you guys if anything does happen to my hair and its colour. For now, I'm not worried at all :)

Current hair
I've never fully experienced hair regrowth until now *cries* I knew it was going to happen, I was expecting it but argh, it's pretty annoying! One month has passed and there's a bit over half a centimeter of regrowth on my roots :( It will become more and worse overtime BUT I am very glad that I saved half a bottle of dye to touch up my roots ^_^ I might touch up my roots next month and if anyone wants to see pictures of that then let me know.

So now I know that my hair grows half a centimeter every month. That's not too bad I suppose.

This was taken yesterday. Sorry my parting is a bit of a mess :S

One side of my hair
Ahh my hair became all static-like because I was trying to push down the random strands sticking out :/

Now to my favourite part, the pros and the cons:

Pros
- Perfect for dark hair
- Ultra lightening
- No damaging effects, instead did the opposite
- Minimises yellow or orange tones in hair
- Has an 'anti-fade' system
- Comes with a large size of conditioner (54 mL)
- Dye has a bearable fruit-like scent
- Smooth texture of the dye can be easy to work with
- Permanent and has grey coverage
- Colour swatches on the box are accurate
- Can be purchased in-store, very convenient
- Staining of the dye on skin is not a huge problem, can be removed okay
- Did not have an allergic reaction
- Could dye hair again with the result shade to achieve lighter hair (golden brown to blonde)

Cons
- Not one of the cheapest home hair dyes (middle range)
- One bottle not enough for long hair (i.e. past the shoulders)
- Limited shades in the Ultra Lightening range
- Red tones present in dyed hair under flash photography
- Texture of the dye a little thick, can be difficult to spread

Personal cons
Overall my hair is on shade but the dye is much more concentrated at the top of my hair than the bottom half. Maybe it was the way that my mum applied the dye and having a plastic bag over my head could have allowed the dye to be more saturated up the top, since all of my hair was sitting in that area. I do still see some black near the bottom of my hair so maybe the thickness of the dye prevented the colour to be spread evenly.

I am happy with this dye and I had a really pleasant experience with it. I wasn't aiming to achieve golden brown hair which means that I'm not over the moon with my current hair colour, but that's alright. It's just a tad too light for my liking however that hasn't influenced my thoughts on this brand of dye at all. I would have liked to have tried UL 61 for an ash brown which may have been my ideal hair colour.

Recommend?
Absolutely, I recommend this hair dye for people with dark hair because it worked very well for me. Maybe a bit too well but at least it's not a waste of money, right? :) Who knew that lightening your hair without bleach could be so easy.

Repurchase?
Since this wasn't my ideal shade, I probably wouldn't repurchase this unless I can find a slightly darker shade. I am still on the hunt for the perfect dark brown dye! Also, I really want to try those foam dyes that are now on the shelves of department stores. I've spotted Clairol and L'Oreal with new foam dyes. Asian-brand dyes like Palty, Liese, Prettia etc. are foam dyes and I've heard great things about them (it must be because they are specially made for dark hair).

Does anyone know a hair dye that can achieve a natural dark brown? Here's my colour hairspiration...

MissA's Suzy and T-ara's Jiyeon
(K-pop idols)
I've totally been loving these girls' hair colours. Jiyeon has had her brown hair for a while and I love how natural it looks on her - no tinges of red/orange. At times she has black hair too, haha. Suzy has had three different hair colours in one year - she had brown earlier this year, then dyed it blonde and now she's back to having black hair! She pulls off these hair colours so well, I'll show you:
I'd love to achieve this colour

I know I could get my hairdresser to dye my hair but I'll still persist with home dyes, just because it's way more affordable. Jiyeon's hair colour = my ideal hair colour

How natural does it look, seriously

Pretty bright lighting but it's still a nice dark brown!

And I just felt like adding in a picture of those two together. They're cute as haha

Suzy with brown hair (left), Jiyeon with black hair (right)
Did you know that these two are younger than me :O Not by much though

On the subject of hair, I got a usamimi headband from a magazine a couple of months ago. If you don't know what it is, it looks like this:

The most common way of wearing this headband is as bunny ears. I decided to create my own shape for the headband which turned out to be a... bird o_o I didn't intend on making a bird on my head xD Here it is:

I can't remember how I did this so please don't ask me how x[ I randomly made it!

That's about it for my veryyyyyy lengthy blog post! It's to make up for my absence in the last couple of weeks. Thanks for reading by the way. Now it's time for me to announce the winner of my giveaway from two weeks ago:
Congratulations Yi-Lin!
It seems that makeup vs. skincare was 50-50 but I noticed that many of you believe that you need to have good skin for makeup to look good - I totally agree =]

I have another giveaway for you guys and again it's related to this post :D

I am going to be giving away....

Black Synthetic Clip-On Side Bangs

 Credits to eBay

I forgot to take a picture of it so I used the one from eBay. I purchased this from eBay a while ago and now that my hair is brown, it won't suit my hair colour anymore!! Also, I reckon I'll always be having side bangs anyway because I have a big forehead :3 Which means that this won't be much use to me so I'm giving it away to whoever wants it! The winner will be announced in the next blog post. I won't say when so get your entry in fast :P

If there are more than one entries then I will randomly pick a winner out of a hat. So to enter, all you've got to do is leave a comment with your name, email address and your answer to the questjen...

What is your ideal hair colour?
Now that you know my ideal hair colour, I want to know what yours is :)

I Promise that I'll blog again soon, yay to no more weekly blog posts now that I am on break!

Guest Blog Post - Boticca.com

Hi guys! I know that I said I wasn't going to be back on the blogging scene until I'm done with exams but I happen to have some time to spare right now :) My final exam will be next Tuesday and I must say that having three 3-hour uni exams in one week has been very hectic for me! I'll share more news when I make my official return next week.

Despite being on a blogging hiatus, I still check my emails daily... because I'm kind of addicted to checking my various email accounts - Gmail, Hotmail and Uni email! To my surprise, I received an email from Eliza who works for Boticca.com, a London-based online boutique which sells jewellery and accessories. I actually hadn't heard of Bottica.com prior to receiving the email so I was quite curious about the shop. Those who have been following my blog for a while would know that I absolutely adore accessories, especially jewellery.

Eliza emailed me to ask whether there could be a guest post from Boticca.com on my blog - and of course, I accepted :) I am always welcome to guest posts which fit-in with the theme of my blog so that they are able to interest you guys. If you aren't too sure what a guest post is, it is where the owner of the blog (me) doesn't write the blog post or the entirety of the post but instead has someone else take over and do the writing. It's a great way of networking and for me to let you guys know about other blogs or online shops. If you're interested in being a guest blogger on QuestJen, feel free to let me know.

If you love accessorising and if you love to online shop, I'll leave you guys to read more about Boticca.com below.

I'll be back with a new blog post next week, take care everyone ^_^

Collective Makeup Haul and Hiatus

Hello! It's been a week already since I last posted :) This was my final week of uni for the semester which now means that I should be studying hard for exams! Just thought I'd do a blog post before I get into major study/cram mode, eek I'm so not looking forward to my first university exams :( I have 4 to do by the end of this month.

Thanks for the comments on my two previous posts which I wrote last week. If you haven't checked them out, they are here and here. And in one of the posts I held a mini giveaway of two 10-pair false eyelash boxes and I have drawn the winners. They've already been contacted but I'll still share the winners here...

Sue
Jennifer H

Congratulations girls, hope you'll like the lashes ^.^ And for everyone else, I promise you that there will be more giveaways from me!!

One of the main points of this post is to say a temporary goodbye from my blog while I prepare for my exams. I didn't want to be MIA without giving you guys any notice, that would probably make me a bad blogger. I'll be on hiatus for 3 weeks as my exams will finish on the 28th of this month. It sucks for me that I will be absent from the blogosphere while most of you will still be here (those on summer holidays and those who can study for exams + blog) and I will definitely be missing you guys haha T.T Sorry that I have to do this, I hope that you'll all understand. I really need to focus on my studies now...

Don't worry though, because when I'm back I will be on holidays! Which means more time for blogging instead of once a week AND I'll have time to create a new blog header, so be on the lookout for that when I make my 'comeback' ;D Feel free to create a blog header for me while I'm away, I'd really appreciate that (since I'm a major photoshop noob) and I'll feature/mention you here =P

Now that I've got the sad/bad news out of the way, I'll now attempt to make this post more happy to read. Not much has been happening to me recently besides uni, but I have bought/received new makeup products. This will be a collective haul because I didn't get all of these items at once (that'd be a little crazy for me) or from once place. Some were bought online and some were from my favourite drugstore, Priceline.

Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara

I bought this when it was on sale, and my main reason for purchasing it was because I received a $3 discount voucher for the mascara! I thought I'd make use of it and purchase a mascara that I was rather curious about. I think there are a few mascaras that claim to give that 'false lash' effect but I reckon Maybelline's version is the latest. I have tried this so I can give a review if requested. I'm happy with the price I paid instead of the RRP (around $17 is the RRP and I paid around $12)

Manicare Precision Blending Sponge

Funny how I bought this a while ago but still haven't used it yet! In case you're not familiar with this sponge, it's an egg-shaped sponge to apply foundation and have it evenly distributed. I guess it's a dupe for the more expensive and well-known beauty blender. It was around $7-8 and I didn't get it on sale. I don't use a liquid foundation (I use a velvet/cream textured one) so it would hard for me to test out how well it blends. I do however have a tinted moisturiser with a very smooth consistency but it wouldn't require the use of a blending sponge. When I do get around to using it, it's likely that I will do a review =]

Red Earth Brows Perfecting Kit

This was in the bargain basket where all the heavily discounted items were sitting. Priceline has now discontinued selling Red Earth cosmetics and so most of the items are around $2 each. I picked this up because I really wanted/needed an eyebrow kit and $2 was a more-than-ok price to pay! I love how it comes with mini tools, so cute. I'm glad it's the right shade for my natural brows but since I've dyed my hair (if you're not following me on Twitter, you probably didn't know that I've become brunette!), I've wanted to slightly lighten my brows but I don't know how without using a dye =[ I know how to totally redraw the brow but no idea how to lighten! Someone teach me pleaseeee.

1000 Hour Heated Eyelash Curler

Another product that I had wanted and was on my wishlist. It definitely won't be replacing my usual manual lash curler and I don't think anyone should even consider replacing a regular lash curler with a heated one - they work differently and have different purposes :) But yeah, so far I'm liking it and it was worth the $15 or so dollars I paid when it was on sale.

88 Ultra Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette

I won this from an eBay bid for under $20 shipped and the seller happened to be from the same city as me, so I received it in a matter of days xD That was pretty cool actually. Anyway, I had been wanting an 88 palette for a while, just so I can have heaps of colours to work with for makeup looks. I won't be buying anymore eyeshadow anytime soon, I swear! I must say though, that I am happy with the pigmentation.

6 Shades Contour Palette

Another item that I wanted which used to be on my wishlist hehe - got this on eBay as well for $11 and free shipping. Now I can contour my face and nose to make it all look slimmer hehe. I'm not that great with contouring but I am practicing and trying ^^" I don't mind that they aren't that pigmented and are a little chalky because I did get this really cheap and it's not meant to be pigmented like eyeshadow.

L'Oreal Infallible Make-up Sample

Being a Priceline club member has a few lovely privileges and one is getting samples. This is actually the first time I've received a sample from Priceline so it's not like they send out samples often. I guess I could try out my blending sponge with this foundation sample, cool =]

Sigma Miss Taylor Retractable Kabuki Brush

As a Sigma affliliate, I received this cute purple kabuki brush and I love how it's retractable - so purse-friendly. I will be doing a review on this next month after I make use of it :P All I can say now is that it's super soft like fur! Hope the analogy isn't too bad, especially to those who are anti-fur... oops ;S It's synthetic hair by the way so no worries ^_^

Maybelline Baby Lips Balm in Anti-Oxidant Berry

I think most people in Australia got this for free in the mail but the letter than came with mine said that I was one of the lucky few to win this so yeah @_@ I can't even remember how I entered to win this but it was such a surprise to me when I received this haha. It smells lovely and I probably will eventually do a review when I have time.

Since I'm going to be away for a while, here's a little something for you....

Another mini giveaway, 1 prize =]

- My Beauty Diary Pearl Powder Mask
- Cellnique Jar Samples (inside the box)
- Pupa Triple-Purpose Eye Pencil

I know it's not much at all but I've decided to giveaway items to match the theme of my post (just like my previous mini giveaways lol).

To enter, please leave a comment with your name and email address AND also your answer to this week's questjen. I will randomly draw the winner's name out of a hat when I make my return:

Do you prefer makeup or skincare?

My answer:
It's tough to pick one because as much as a makeup junkie I am, I also care a lot about my skin. Despite sensitive skin being low-maintenance, it requires quite a lot of attention. It's almost like a skin disorder because when an allergic reaction occurs, it should be treated with special cream etc. I have never visited a dermatologist but I have seen a doctor about redness/itchiness/rashes on my face. I haven't had any problems with my skin recently so I haven't been needing to use specific cleansers or creams. To be honest, I don't even have a skin care routine! I usually just wash my face with water and put on moisturiser, that's it haha. I use makeup wipes to remove foundation and don't bother with toner. I could do without using makeup and skincare but makeup... I love how it can transform your look. Concealers and foundations can hide an ugly pimple so well whereas skin care products only help the pimple to become gradually smaller. So what do I prefer? It's almost a tie but not quite - makeup wins for me.

One last thing before I go - I have some new pictures of me :) I went out on Wednesday night to my friend's 18th dinner! An OOTN to share hehe~

- Grey woolen dress with a turtle-neck style?
- Grey blazer ($10 fromValleygirl)
- Brown and gold belt ($5 from Temt)
- Black glittery tights ($2 from Supre)

Oh and the bag I used is also seen in this picture, it's sitting on my chair! Burberry-inspired vintage bag

Now onto my jewellery which I kept very simple

Wearing the dangly earrings that Natsumi aka Bunny got me, yay (:
And my crown studs which I adore
You can also see my lashes and I didn't wear falsies, just used my The Falsies mascara hehe

Flower ring which I got from Lovisa for $3!
I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it

This sort of reminds me of something that you'd see on Tumblr. Don't ask why lol. I don't even use Tumblr but I've seen pictures like this where they don't show their face haha

My hair doesn't look as brown as it really is in those pictures above but I shall do a post where I do a before and after comparison so you can have a better look.

One last picture before I go for good....

See you again at the end of this month bloggies, I will miss you guys!

 Hugs anyone? Or not...
Look at the mess on the floor... my studying materials x]

TAKE CARE EVERYONE, and best of luck to those who also have exams now or soon :]

QuestJen featured on The Trend Boutique!

Just a quick post to share with you guys some news :) My blog has recently been showcased on The Trend Boutique's official blog! I wouldn't call this an achievement of some sort but it's quite exciting to be featured on a more well-known blog. I feel overwhelmed *blushes* I totally didn't expect it at all.

In case you didn't know, The Trend Boutique is an online clothing store with over 100 brands and designers which also carry celebrity brands such as Belle Noel by Kim Kardashian and House of Harlow by Nicole Richie. And yes, the Trend Boutique has all the latest trends in stock!

It's great that they see me as a fashion blogger, it's a surprise to me because I don't have those typical fashion posts that most fashion bloggers have. I haven't classified myself as a fashion blogger and my style is nothing really that special either! I do however have a 'passion for fashion' and I love to dress up. The Trend Boutique has showcased me as 'Fashion Blogger of the Day'! The intern/social networker for the The Trend Boutique named Brenda notified me of this via email.

Sidebar banner :)

Oh and I never mentioned them in my blog posts but I think it's time that I did! They have been advertising on my blog's sidebar for a while now and just in case you haven't noticed it, here it is:

The banner right on the end with the model in the yellow dress
And there's my latest blog post which you can check out here

They were also kind enough to tweet it~

So so lovely of them

Anyway, that's all I have to share about this. Although it's a temporary showcase, it still means a lot to me. They have over 3000 Twitter followers and perhaps even more blog readers so for my blog to possibly reach that many people is very amazing. Thanks so much to The Trend Boutique!

Disclaimer: This blog post was NOT sponsored by The Trend Boutique nor is this an advertorial. I am NOT getting paid to post this and it was entirely my choice to mention The Trend Boutique.

New Falsies + Updates

Helloooo everyone! So glad it's Friday night, the weekend is here and I have some time to blog :) How are we all? Hope everyone's had a great week~

Thanks to those who entered my giveaway last week! I had a mini giveaway which lasted for a week and I was giving away 3 sets of water nail decals which were from my Viva La Nails sample pack. To enter, all that was needed to be done was to comment on the post with the participant's name, email address and answer to the questjen which was 'How do you like to decorate your nails?'

Here are the lucky winners which I randomly chose out of a hat:

Tezza
Heatherette
Tram

Congrats girls! I will be emailing you shortly to let you know that you have won and to have your postal details :) I will send them out to you some time next week!

Sad that you didn't win? Don't worry! There will be another mini giveaway from me soon I promise ;)

Anyway, it's June now so I had to say a big bye-bye to May :( May was an incredible month for me for sooo many reasons and the highlights would definitely have to be:

- Celebrating my 3 year anniversary with my boyfriend ♥
- Celebrating my boyfriend's 19th birthday
- Celebrating my 18th birthday

May for me = jam-packed month of celebrations! It's always going to be a fun-filled and busy month for me which has its pros and cons, but mostly pros :D

I never got around to saying how my 18th birthday celebration went so I'll do a quick summary of it here with some pictures~

I know this is SUPER delayed but better late than never. Here's how my 18th birthday went back in May 22 2011...

I don't even know where to start but what I can clearly remember was the weather being very wet, gloomy and windy :( Despite that though, I still managed to have a great day! Although I was home for most of it, I was pretty much bombarded with birthday messages throughout the day via Twitter and Facebook (thank you all once again). Guess what? I managed to reply to all of them, which is quite rare for someone to do. On Facebook I see the occasional 'like' from the birthday girl/boy after they receive the birthday message you post on their wall. Does the 'like' button represent a thank you? I don't think it does. You might as well say thanks if you clicked the 'like' button. Then there are those who do the whole 'thank you everyone for the birthday wishes' status without personal acknowledgement which I don't particularly like. Hmm that's just how I feel about it. Anyway moving on...

Birthday selca (self-cam)

I remember my mum giving me a hug in the morning, that was quite sweet. I didn't actually get spoilt by my parents for my 18th, however they both paid for my celebration which was a few hundred dollars, mind you. I won't go into detail about what I got but you can watch my birthday haul vlog here which is pretty much everything I got. Oh wait, it's not. My mum got me a Harajuku Lovers perfume and I got some things from blog friends. Things that I got after I made the vlog haul:

From my mum ♥

Letter and earrings from Bunny

Letter and Daiso lashes from Jahnice

I had my 18th at a karaoke bar called and it's quite pretty inside. I had a girls' night with my close friends from high school who I don't usually see much since we're all over the place. I miss how we used to all hang out together in high school during recess and lunch :/ So my birthday was a great opportunity for us to all meet again ^^ It turned out to be such a fab night, loads of fun and laughter. I would love to relive that night again even though it was pretty chilly *brrr*.

1st song of the night - Katy Perry's Firework

We were there for a few hours and since it was a Sunday night, there weren't that many people at the bar which was alright. However there was a group of loud Asians singing in a room near ours and we heard a girl screaming in another room o_o Apparently there was a really drunk Chinese girl with a non-Asian boyfriend speaking fluent Mandarin to her. I didn't see or hear though, my friends did though. Oh and the drunk girl tried to come into our room :| That didn't spoil the night though lol. It was somewhat... amusing? But I've got to admit that I got worried haha...

Hmm what else... I had a large birthday cake which I bought from my work place :D Made great use of the staff discount! I only shared with 3 others because the rest had to leave before I started cutting the cake, but everyone sang happy birthday beforehand, aw. Ah well, that meant that there was more left over for me and my family x] It was also my brother's birthday on the same day so cake for him too! By the way he's not my twin or anything... he's 5 years older than me and it was a coincidence that we were born on the same day. I guess we were conceived around the same time too LOL *shifty eyes*

I think you should all be proud of me for staying 'sober' on my 18th. I didn't drink at all and I still haven't drank since! There was meant to be alcohol but my mum at the last minute told the bar guy not to serve us alcohol just in case anyone drove. That was okay because I didn't really want to drink as I had uni the next day. I'm not a fan of alcohol and maybe I would have it on a special occasion but I don't think it's necessary for 'having fun'. Unless fun is defined by something else but meh, soft drinks are fine!

You're probably all wondering about whether I celebrated with my boyfriend or not. Well yes, I did :) We spent the day together and he bought me a little cake. He didn't spoil me rotten but he got me some things that I really wanted/needed which was perfect ♥

And that's how my 18th went! If you didn't read it then you would have seen massive patches of white xD And now to bombard you with some more pictures. If you are a friend of my personal Facebook page, you probably would have already seen these pictures (sorry)

 My side profile
Does it make me vain to say that I really like my side profile?
Hehe, my nose looks pointy! (It's just an illusion, people)

I put my hair on the side so that the floral design of my dress could easily be seen. And I triend curling my ends but that failed -_- The white flower is really contrasting to the black~ By the way, my dress was super cheap which I bought like last year for no reason xD The reason being that was was only around $18 HAHA. And I never found the right occasion to wear it so I decided to wear it for my birthday lol. Black wasn't my ideal colour but oh well.

FOTN - NYX For Your Eyes Only (Mysterious Brown Eyes)

This was before I put on any eyeliner

I kept it quite neutral and subtle which was my aim. I created a 3-tone look using the following colours from the NYX palette:

6/10 used to create this look

There's yellowy gold in the inner corners, lilac in the center where the light reflects off of the most and a blend of the purple and taupe colour for the outer corners. I used the salmon pink as the base lid colour and used the white to highlight the brow bone.

To properly achieve this look, I used my new Sigma Eyes Kit brushes which my boyfriend got for me:

I will do a review on these some time!

I didn't put on blush because I'm the type that naturally blushes really easily so that's why I only own like 3 blushes which is still plenty for me haha. For my lips I used NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Natural.

My earrings for the night (:

I also have pictures of friends but for privacy reasons, I won't post their pictures here.

After a big night I took some pictures but my makeup made me look like I had panda eyes so it didn't look that great :/

Better shot of my dress but messy hair :|

Hair down and it curled a little haha
I absolutely love the lashes that I wore for my birthday, they looked so natural in pictures! I think they are my favourites now.

Recently I bought 4 boxes of 10 pairs of lashes of different styles because they were only less than $2 a box! Amazing, right?

1 box of criss-cross lashes and 3 boxes of straight lashes

The ones I used for my birthday celebration were these:

They lengthen so well yet they're hardly noticeable!

As for the other straight lashes that I got... I think they're too long and will be too noticeable D: So I probably won't be making use of them Which means that I will be giving them away!

2 lucky winners will receive a box of lashes!
(See I told you that there would be another giveaway from me very soon)

If you'd like to enter this mini giveaway, please comment below with your name and email address :) You must be a follower of my blog and I will check this! But to be fully eligible to win, you must also answer this week's questjen.

It's open to all readers and it will last for one week only. Winners will be announced in my blog post next weekend :D

This week's questjen is:

How often do you wear false eyelashes?

I wear them only on evening occasions like a party because I think it's too much for me to wear during the day. I barely wear makeup in the day time so having false lashes would seem a little dramatic for my daytime look. I love to wear them when I take pictures because mascara and curled lashes don't stand out that much. I use them in my tutorials, circle lens reviews and FOTD looks which again is not often at all. I don't have really short Asian lashes so I never feel insecure about my lashes not being long enough :) I actually contemplated on whether or not to wear falsies to my birthday - I was this close to not wearing them but now I'm super glad I wore them because they stand out nicely in my pictures!

Disclaimer: Everything was purchased with my own money besides the items gifted to me. The giveaway lashes were not sponsored.
