Jewellery Trends Inspired by SNSD/Girls' Generation

If you follow K-pop like me, you'll be familiar with the certain looks that these stars have - it's a part of their 'image. Sometimes this image stays the same, or changes over time depending on their concepts. For example, looking at one of my favourite girl groups SNSD, also known as Girls' Generation, they started out with a cutesy, dolly, innocent image and as they matured their styles became more classy, sophisticated and elegant as well as the musical styles. Being a fan of theirs from my high school days 'til now, I feel as though I went through that growth and maturity phase like they did and being similar in age, I can certainly relate and see them as my idols/role models. I feel like their style is my style, so every now and then I like to check out their outfits worn at premiere events, fashion shows, photoshoots and even the outfits they wear to the airport. Not only do I take notice of their outfits but also their hair, makeup, jewellery and accessories. They inspire me so much that I've decided to share 3 jewellery trends that I've noticed on the girls and also on those around me.

The following items for each of these trends features some very affordable pieces that you can easily add to your collection - styling on a budget!

Floral

When I think of floral, I get reminded of spring and summer. Yes we do see flowers more in these seasons however for jewellery pieces, floral is great to wear as a pattern or a design all year round. In moderation it's quite pretty and when worn to complement an item/outfit rather than take over and be the centre of attention, it gives a nice finishing touch.

SNSD's Hyoyeon is wearing a lovely sleeved lace dress with a chunky floral necklace. Sure it counts as a statement piece but when paired with blue dress and a blue bag, it blends in with the overall look. I decided to give this look a go with a less-chunky floral necklace:

I love how the flowers aren't too over-the-top with a simplistic design of alternating big and small flowers. The piece sits really nicely on the decolletage area and I think it looks great with a lovely lace top/dress. I find the double chains to be quite a unique and I reckon it makes the necklace look less fragile and more weighty without it actually being so. Pretty good for something around $5!

Pearls

Beautiful, bright round pearls... there's just something so classy about them, whether it's one pearl on its own or a cluster of them. And I think that a female wearing pearl earrings, a pearl necklace, a pearl ring and a pearl bracelet would look perfectly normal to me! You can never have too many pearls (okay maybe it'll look odd if you layer it on too heavily - moderation is key).

Ah Jessica, I miss you!

SNSD's Jessica (to me she's still a member) once wore this chunky pearl cluster necklace from Chanel (I don't know the actual name of the necklace) with a white collared shirt and she looked so chic! I absolutely love her simplistic yet elegant style and I find that whatever she wears is in such good taste. No wonder she's becoming a fashion designer - she's a true fashionista after all! I wish her all the best with her career in the fashion industry.

Let's see how well I can pull off this look with a very similar necklace:

Enchanting Pearl Cluster Necklace

Mine is no where near as cluster-ful as Jessica's but when I first saw this on Born Pretty Cute, I was immediately reminded of Jessica's stunning necklace and so I had to have it. Not only does it look good with collared shirts but also fancy dresses and such - I can just picture it *_*

Unlike Jessica's, this is a flat-cluster rather than a 3-dimensional cluster which would appear more bulky/heavy. This one drapes nicely around my neck and I like how the gold chains peek through the pearls to give that white and gold look. Also those small rhinestones in between the pearls add a touch of sparkly-ness. Speaking of rhinestones... guess what the next trend is?

Rhinestones

Aka bling-bling! I love sparkly jewellery and accessories and for me it doesn't necessarily have to be derived from particular stones or crystals as I'm also a fan of the more affordable man-made kind. Sure the 'real' stuff is more luxurious and precious but what matters is most to me is its overall look! Rhinestones and diamantes can be just as sparkly for only a fraction of the price. This trend will always stay relevant.

Of course when celebrities endorse sparkly jewellery pieces like the ones above, they're going to have a hefty price tag on them. But what if they weren't endorsed by a celebrity... would you be able to tell that the above items are pricey? I didn't think so. Let me give you an example with this sparkly ring I have:

... $3 for this ring? Say whaaaaat, who would've thought/known?! I can assure you that it doesn't feel like a cheapie $2-3 item - it actually feels and looks like a legitimate ring that's at least in the double if not triple and so forth digits, not single digits like it is. How surprising, right? Here's more proof that it doesn't look flimsy/tacky:

(By the way this is not a hint or anything, this girl isn't getting engaged anytime soon :P)

I still can't get over the price and how something for affordable looks very much like a actual diamond/engagement ring. Anyway enough about that, moving onto its style. Yes I know that it can be a little too bling-bling for an average girl who is not anywhere near the engagement phase yet (like me) but a way to avoid any questions is to simply wear it on the middle or index finger. That way it'll look like a dressy/cocktail ring and no one will misunderstand. I find this halo, cushion cut style very classic and vintage-like. I adore this style on earrings as well, similar to the ones endorsed by the Jung sisters above.

Now I haven't thought about what type of engagement ring I'd want but for those who do know or specifically, ladies who've got an engagement ring (lucky ducks), having a 'cheaper' one to wear everyday can be a safer option for you. We all know how costly these rings can be and the thought of losing one is almost unbearable, so why not wear an imitation of the real thing to keep the real thing stored away safely? No one will even know and if it gets lost, it's better than losing the actual ring, hey! So ladies, if you've got a halo engagement ring similar or the same as this one, you could consider getting it for yourself to wear instead, especially if you're feeling paranoid about it going missing, because I know I would.

I can honestly say that I am a fan of all of these jewellery styles worn on the SNSD girls, hence I see them as my fashion/style icons. I don't think I've ever seen them wear something absolutely ridiculous which I'm quite happy about :D

Gold Accessories from Born Pretty Store

There are many ways to 'pretty ourselves up' - by wearing makeup, dressing nicely, painting our nails, styling our hair and accessorising with jewellery. The one that I have followed ever since I was a little girl was wearing jewellery because this made me feel more girly and pretty (as well as wearing dresses and skirts). In fact, I had my ears pierced when I was only 2 years old so it was as though I grew up to be interested in jewellery - thanks mum, there's no way that I would've agreed to getting my ears pierced at the time! Once I was a naughty girl and took my mum's 18 ct-gold diamond ring from her drawer and wore it on (it didn't fit but this didn't matter to me) and spun around in the backyard with it, because I felt like a princess lol. You can imagine what happened next... it flew off my finger and it was never to be found again. Mum wasn't too pleased when I told her, though I was forgiven, surprisingly! Now that I'm an adult, I can choose we wear real gold or 'fake' gold, and the same goes for rose gold, white gold or silver. I don't restrict myself on what to wear, I like a bit of everything and it depends on my outfit and style. Dainty pieces, statement pieces, I'm good with anything as long as they look nice.

This is an extremely affordable bracelet and judging by the quality, it does seem as though you get more than what you pay for. The design is simple yet elegant and the detail on the clover with the rhinestones is gorgeous. I have a tiny wrist and have lots of trouble buying bracelets and bangles because of it. Whenever I come across any adjustable bracelets or bangles like these, I feel like Cinderella with her perfectly-fitted glass slippers. Makes a great gift for someone too!

Back to the rhinestones again, they appear to be glued on with great care and precision, and don't seem to be prone to falling off. I've worn this bangle at night and it glistens under the lights so prettily. I doubt that many would guess that this retails for just a few dollars!

I don't have a lot of statement pieces, especially necklaces so I was keen to pick this one. It's bold but not too over-the-top and can go with many different outfits. I personally am a big fan of this design with the two long leaves connected together. They can be folded to save space for storage, which is handy.

Once again I find the quality of this to be very sturdy, non-tacky and it's a good price. It's got that classiness to it which I adore and I can see myself wearing this for a number of occasions.

My First GlossyBox AU

Hello! Last week I was contacted by Amanda of GlossyBox and from that I was sent January's GlossyBox - a box filled with full-sized products/samples from a range of beauty brands. I'm sure most of you bloggers out there are already familiar with these boxes. If not then here's what I know about them:

• A subscription is required to receive these boxes monthly
• Generally they range from $14.95-$20 a box p/month
• Contain 4-6 samples/full-sized products which are beauty, skincare or haircare related
• At least a few high-end branded items are included
• The items are unknown before receiving the box
• Every box's items are the same

My initial thoughts on the GlossyBox

Thoughts on the products provided

I'm not a very fussy person and I am usually happy/grateful for things that I am given. In this case, the box was provided for me free of charge and being the nice person that I am, I can't exactly 'complain' about the items. But from a beauty blogger's perspective, I don't feel obliged to point out my concerns and give my honest opinions. I'll start off by saying that yes, I would use all of these products as they all are suitable for my skin type... and taste in skincare/cosmetics =P But I already have heaps of body moisturiser. That's my only complaint, if you even call it a complaint, lol.

I have to admit that I did feel a bit puzzled after seeing only 5 items in my box. I did a little search on GlossyBox's site and I found out that there are two products that weren't in my box - Kosmea Daily Exfoliant and Mirenesse Tight Liner Hydra Gel Eye Liner. BUT then I found out that there are actually 2 versions of the box where they would include those two products but then not have two of the ones that I had!! Thanks for the clarification Sue and Anna.

Because I've had these products for only a bit over a week, I haven't been able to use them to their full extents to be able to write a review. If anyone would like a review for any of January's GlossyBox items, just let me know!

Repurchase?

$14.95 is a decent price I suppose, so yes I would repurchase, aka keep the subscription. It's just that I'd rather use that money on products that I actually want or need to purchase. But I've realised that this a good way to try new products without having to buy full-sized items.

NOTD: Rosy Nail Patches

Hello, how are you =] ? I'm so glad that winter is finally over in Australia and it is now spring! However I can't officially farewell the cold weather this year yet because apparently it will be raining later this week - what a shame :(

Anyway, I've decided to do a blog post on my nails hehe. My main reason is that I haven't done one in a really long time but also, my face hasn't been in the best condition lately due to allergic reactions my sensitive skin has experienced. So for the past few weeks I've had to put up with uneven swollen eyelids and blotchy, red, dry and flaky patches on my cheeks: not good at all! That's the bad thing about having super sensitive skin like mine, you never know when an allergic reaction can occur when you start using a new product. And once it happens it's hard to trace back to the cause when you're also applying random creams to try and help your skin *cries* My skin has gradually gotten better and now it's no longer red, just a little dry in areas :) Which means that I'll be able to show my face again on my blog posts haha.

Recently I've tried out these nail patches that were provided by KKCenterHK which became my NOTD (nails of the day).

Day 3 of wear. This was my first and only attempt

I was able to pick the design for my nails and I chose this one because I liked how they had a black background with red and white roses which stood out and looked quite cute. I normally wouldn't wear dark nail polishes such as black so I guess I wanted to experiment with a dark base colour.

I was provided with the following items:

☆ Round Files Sanding Sandpaper Nail Manicure ($1.00 US)

I'm glad that I was also provided with a filer because well, having a nail filer to use specifically for these nail patches is handy. I noticed that this particular nail file was more rough than my usual ones and it felt just like sandpaper (as the name states). It worked really well for filing off the foil excess.

If you aren't aware of nail patches/foils, they are stickers that you stick onto your nails and ta-da, no need for nail polish or decorating :] On the front package, it states the following:

• 11-day wear

• 100% shiny

• Zero drying time

• Zero smudging

And this is the information on the back:

'Nail foils are a revolutionary, easy-to-use nail system that allows you to create unbelievably gorgeous nails in minutes'

The instructions on the back are brief yet informative. They are easy to follow and are clear.

I ended up doing this mani at night while catching up on my YouTube subscriptions (watching videos consecutively) and once I was done I snapped a picture under my lamp:

Since this was my first time using nail patches/foils, it took me quite a while to put them all on! It would have been cool if I filmed the whole process! I needed to cut each one to fit perfectly onto my nails, stick them on and file off the excess foils.

My very first nail patch stuck on and completed!

With the first one I put on as shown above, I carefully trimmed the nail patch so that it could fit my nail perfectly x) In my opinion my left thumb was the one that turned out the best because that was when I had the most patience! I kept having trouble with smoothing out the edges, thus creases were made -_- It happened for all of my nails and I didn't know how to fix it argh.

The stickers themselves are not too thick or thin, just right. They aren't hard to work with and if you stick one on crooked, you can peel it off and re-stick without making a mess or ruining the pattern. Also, they aren't stretchy so they will retain their shape. The stickers reminded me of those book covers/wraps, if you know what I'm talking about. The ones that are found in rolls with patterns/pictures.

After I was done I had the 6 biggest patches left over - what to do with these? Hehe

Now to see how my nails look after all the patches are on...

They surely do look shiny and the pictures don't show how holographic these are, but I do have this picture:

Depending on the lighting etc, these nail foils can give a rainbow effect - very pretty!!

I'm going to talk about those points that I mentioned before which were on the front of the packaging.

Q: Was I able to wear these for at least 11 days?

A: No, however it may have been possible. Maybe it had to do with the way I applied these but even so, I wasn't keen on having these on my nails for long. To me it was like using nail stickers and we all should know that nail stickers don't last either. A top coat is useful but it doesn't give that same 'stay effect' like glued nail items. In fact I had used a top coat over my nail patches and I don't reckon that helped. I wore these nail foils for 4 days and I easily peeled them off as they were starting to get really annoying :/ The ends were... I guess you could say 'fraying' and no longer stuck to my nails so I kept having the urge to rip them off. I could have put some glue on the ends but quite frankly, I couldn't be bothered :| Off they went!

Q: Were the nail patches 100% shiny?

A: Yes. I didn't think that shine factor had a percentage but indeed they were shiny. They have a glossy film which makes them holographic :D They were really smooth too... shame they weren't as smooth when they were on my nails (due to the silly creases on the edges - my fault I reckon). I seriously wouldn't be able to stand a matte feeling on my nails, that would just feel too dry and icky. Therefore I am glad that the nail patches were '100% shiny'.

Q: So was there zero drying time and smudging?

A: Yes. I don't really want to say this but whatever - DUH! Haha I kid. Seriously though, they are simply stickers so of course there wouldn't be any 'drying time' or smudging. The pattern is printed onto the stickers and even though they are glossy, they aren't wet lol. They will stay that way so no worries about smudges. Stick them on and voila, you're done.

Pros:

- Images on the package help with directions

- Clear and precise instructions

- Instructions include preparation, application and removal

- Simple to apply

- Perfect for those who lack skills in nail art (like me)

- Desirable pattern and there are plenty to choose from

- Smooth and shiny stickers give a glossy finish

- No need for glue

- Holographic-rainbow effect

- Various sizes of patches

- 16 pieces allows room for error

- Easy to remove, just peel and won't leave any residue

Cons:

- Difficult to file evenly due to creases which can occur on the edges

- Patches aren't sticky enough, ends are able to 'fray'

- Uneven surfaces can be created, can't be smoothed out

- 6 left over patches doesn't allow for a second application on all nails

Overall thoughts:

I know I said that it took me quite a while to apply them on both hands (at least half an hour) but I'm sure for me it's quicker to apply patches instead of painting my nails and then decorating, which I suck at anyway hahaha. Using nail patches with patterns already on there is beneficial as it's good to know exactly how your nails will look once you're done with your manicure! Nail patches are a great alternative to false nails if you already have long nails and if you're blank for nail art ideas. They'd be perfect for a day/night out because you can easily peel them off afterwards. They'd also be perfect for people who can't wear nail polish on a daily basis i.e. school/work reasons and so instead of putting in the effort of applying nail polish, decorating and removing it all with nail polish remover, it's much easier to use nail patches =]

Repurchase?

I would definitely use nail patches again. I think I can improve with my application skills after my first attempt so bring it on! I love how these are very common to find in stores as well as online. I've seen ones similar to these carried by Sally Hansen I believe. I had always been curious about trying them and now I have had the opportunity to do so, I would recommend these for sure :) To be honest, I did think that that these nail patches could be my nails for the week which was a bit of a let down :( It's okay though, now I know to only use nail patches for special occasions and whatnot hehe. I'll go back to using nail polish for my nail designs to last longer than a few days!

Okay I'm going to get back to having questjens of the week for you guys. This one's going to be simple one:

What's your favourite pattern?

Are you into stripes, polka dots, swirls or something else?

Yeah, it's a pretty random questjen haha I'm very curious! No one really talks about their favourite patterns but I reckon we all have at least a few that we tend to stick with when we choose designs for anything such as a shirt, nails and quilt covers lol.

I like stripes for shirts but other than that it gets a little over-the-top for my liking xD Same with polka dots - in small doses it's okay. Swirls are pretty abstract and they're quite girly and cute which represents my personality. Whenever I attempt to draw I always do random swirls on a page. Other patterns and shapes that I adore are floral, hearts, bows and stars :) Checkered patterns can be nice too however they can remind me of tea towels x) Don't get me wrong though, I am more of a 'simple and plain' kind of person who rarely shops for patterned items like clothes :P

Speaking of patterns, I recently decorated a part of my iPod Touch's screen ^_< I used a whole heap of nail stickers that I had lying around and my main purpose of decorating was to cover up the crack on the top left hand side of the screen. Clumsy me dropped my iPod while I was running for the bus and it left a nasty crack T_T *feels so ashamed*

Review: Geo Princess Mimi Chocolate Brown Lenses

Hi everyone, how are we all? Today I have a review on some lenses that were provided by Pinky Paradise. For you circle lens fans out there, I'm pretty sure that you've all heard of Pinky Paradise since they have such an extensive range of lenses! Not only that, they also carry products such as BB Cream, false eyelashes, face masks and more :) For those who aren't aware of this company, here's a little about them.

Geo Princess Mimi Chocolate Brown Lenses

I decided to try these lenses because they're a new design from Geo and correct me if I'm wrong - famous gal model Tsubasa Masuwaka created this style. They're 15mm lenses which are really big for circle lenses as they are normally 14mm but since I'm quite gal-curious now, I thought I'd give these a try! I've tried 15mm lenses before so I didn't have trouble putting these on.

These lenses look so... normal on her. It's like her eyes are naturally that big :o

Flash lighting

Again I've gone with the gyaru-style because these lenses are WAY too bold for natural makeup. When I first tried these on I shared on Twitter that these lenses made me look posessed without any eye makeup on o_o Black eyeliner, top and bottom falsies tones down the dramatic-ness of the lenses

The yellow in the center really makes my eyes pop in flash lighting and the brown is more like a crimson-brown than a chocolate brown which isn't very natural-looking. But hey, when you've got 15mm lenses, you shouldn't be expecting a natural look at all :P The black limbal ring is not very thick but still noticeable.

A few weeks ago I purchased some fashion non-prescriptive glasses since I didn't own any previously. I used to want to get the more rectangle ones but they don't suit me that well. What do you think of these ones?

Haha it's funny how when I was younger, I used to WANT to wear glasses xP People might have thought that wearing glasses makes you look nerdy but I thought they were cool (maybe because the 'cool' kids wore them LOL)

Just another angle for you all to see. I think I'm improving with applying bottom lashes. I didn't need to do any trimming for these. Can you guess what top lashes I am wearing? They're my Dolly Winks No. 2 which I really like! I'm thinking of getting more Dolly Wink lashes hehe.


What I think of these lenses:

First of all, these lenses are extremely comfortable despite them being 15mm. I don't think that the diameter has much of impact on comfort, perhaps it's more to do with the base curve and thickness. Just like other Geo lenses, these are the same thickness which I reckon is the perfect thickness for comfort and ease of removal. With thinner lenses, I have a little more trouble putting them on and taking them out. I'm happy with the actual lenses themselves.

I remember when these first came out and a few people experienced defects in the lenses where one would feel more comfortable than the other or they would be too unbearable to wear for long hours. Naturally, I was skeptical after hearing about others' issues with the lenses but fortunately I had no problems. Maybe Geo (the manufacturer) fixed their problem and I happened to get one of their newly made ones *shrugs* Or maybe people were talking about the other colours (green and grey) which I haven't tried yet.

 I didn't mean to do the duck face, it just makes my nose appear simmer ._. And it sort of worked xD

Overall thoughts:

I know that these are not the nicest colour from the Princess Mimi range and they aren't highly raved about however, when I try a new pair of lenses from a series I always like to try the brown pair first (just to see how it looks on my naturally brown eyes). If the pattern is too over-the-top then I wouldn't consider trying other colours like blue, grey etc. Now that I have tried the brown from this series, I would consider the other colours because the pattern is quite 'normal'. In other words, there aren't any random swirls or stars and such lol. They would blend in with my eyes without appearing too vibrant and obvious in natural lighting.

I strongly suggest that you don't wear these lenses out without any eyeliner because you will look odd (even if you may think you don't haha) and when you've got gal-style lenses then that means you must put in effort for your eye makeup!

I don't think I'm going to do the star rating for this because my views would seem a little biased. All I'll say is that yes, these are comfortable and yes they give you a definite enlargement. Whether you're fond of the pattern/colour/thickness is all up to you!

My personal opinion... I honestly wouldn't wear these lenses out unless I have the gyaru makeup on. I haven't worn gal makeup out before so it's really unlikely that I will be wearing these lenses in public anyway. They are super duper bold and enlarging - you're bound to freak someone out if they aren't familiar with circle lenses! For lenses, 1mm really makes a difference.

Something that I really, really like about these lenses:

I almost forgot to mention that with these lenses, you can tell which side is the right way up! I discovered this when I first got these lenses and looked at the bottom of the vials. One had a black limbal ring and the other had a brown ring. At first I thought there was something wrong with one of them but it turned out that one was flipped the other side. This was then I discovered that the...

Now I won't have to worry about which is the right way to put these lenses on because it's as simple as looking at the limbal ring :D I don't know whether it's the same for other lens series but I reckon they should all be like this - it makes life easier and it saves us from feeling that awful stinging pain when we insert them the wrong way!

Thoughts on Pinky Paradise

I am able to give my 100% honest opinion on Pinky Paradise as I had been a customer prior to obtaining sponsored lenses. I was stoked when I was contacted by them to review lenses. I can truly say that Pinky Paradise is a trustworthy lens company and you won't have to worry about being scammed or being sold fake products. I was happy with their customer service by promptly replying to my emails, addressing my name in each email and answering all the questions that I had. They are very friendly, polite and their emails were formally written. The fact that they are popular online (YouTubers and bloggers talk about them) means that they are a well-established company that satisfies their customers and have a great reputation. This is what I think is important about an online company, without all of this a company cannot be successful, trusted and respected.

All customers are treated equally and fairly. It's not like they use special packaging for sponsor parcels etc, it's all the same. The elements of my sponsored package looks exactly the same as my purchased one so I didn't get any special treatment besides getting it free of charge. Because Pinky Paradise has been around for quite a number of years, you know they're reliable and awesome!
